I am currently participating in a publishing internship with Stride Press Publishing Company from August 2022 to May 2023. I'm excited to be learning about the publishing process and continuing to enhance my editing skills.
I am currently working on developing a collection of poetry that I will be able to publish and share. Poetry is one of my many passions and this collection will be a reflection of me, my journey, and my world.
I was a digital marketing & social media intern for Walker Media LLC in the summer of 2022. As an intern, I had the opportunity to work in a team to learn about marketing, social media, and self-development. I increased my knowledge and confidence in my abilities to create great content.
I wrote articles for websites, companies, and social media with word counts that ranged from 5,000 to 10,000 words. I created outlines for each piece that aligned with the company's needs. I produced media (images and videos) to enhance the content. I learned to monetize and build blog content with a search engine optimization score of 100. While collaborating with a group to learn, produce projects, and meet deadlines, we created an environment that helped us grow together. I am forever grateful to the Walker Media team!
Here are links to some of the articles I produced:
I have written and studied pieces in the genres of poetry, fiction, nonfiction, and general composition. I was involved in workshops that included intensive discussions and activities for the benefit of the entire class.
I studied technical writing, research, and grammar. I've done research for many projects, and I can convey information clearly and concisely.
I have taken courses in American Literature, British Literature, World Literature, and Shakespeare. I participated in discussions and completed literary analyses surrounding the readings.
I started my college career studying education and all its facets. I took general education, special education, and children's library studies courses. These courses gave me the skills to understand the basics of teaching and communicating information for understanding.
I took the time to study history and political science. I chose to dive deeper into African American history. Through the courses, I gained background on past events, and I now use the information to guide my thoughts as I write about current events.
I studied psychology, philosophy, public speaking, art history, music history, and theater. These courses allowed me to explore many different topics and think about them from different angles. Each of these courses gave me a new perspective I can use in my writing.
I took some great classes in the natural sciences, including biology, geography, and earth and space science. I also was able to study finite mathematics. These courses rounded out my general studies and helped lay the foundation for understanding how the world works.
I joined the Sigma Tau Delta International English Honor Society and Gamma Beta Phi National Honors Society. I achieved the Dean's list honor four times. I received the Martin Luther King Commemorative Scholarship, Jacqueline Heintz Viener Endowed Scholarship in Education, the Southeastern Promise Scholarship, and the Southeastern Priority Honors Scholarship and Housing Scholarship.
While completing my degree, I worked many jobs on campus. I was a Desk Assistant for Southeastern Housing, a Warehouse Team Member for the Receiving Office, and a Control Desk Attendant and Fitness Monitor for the Recreational Sports & Wellness Center. These were my first jobs, and they taught me professional communication, customer service, and balance.
